IMPORTANT CUSTOMER REMINDER
Please check the insurance on everything you store with us
The recent major fire at a self-storage facility in Scoresby has understandably reminded many people of the importance of making sure their belongings, vehicles and equipment are adequately insured. While incidents like this are uncommon, we believe it is important to give every Smart Storage World customer a simple reminder.
YOUR INSURANCE – PLEASE CHECK
Please contact your current home and contents insurer or insurance broker and specifically ask whether your policy covers goods stored in a self-storage facility. If necessary, ask them to include goods stored at Smart Storage World, 33 Keilor Park Drive, East Keilor VIC 3033. Please also check that the insured value is sufficient to replace everything you have stored and ask about fire, theft, water damage and any other relevant exclusions, limits or conditions.
VEHICLES, BOATS, CARAVANS & EQUIPMENT STORED OUTSIDE
If you store a vehicle, caravan, boat, trailer, machinery or other equipment outside, these items are also your responsibility to insure. This applies even if the vehicle or equipment is unregistered, not being driven or not currently in use. Please speak with your insurer or broker to confirm the appropriate cover while it is stored at our facility.
RODENT PREVENTION – AN IMPORTANT PRECAUTION
Please ensure all food, food scraps and rubbish are removed from vehicles, vans, caravans, boats and equipment before storage. We have experienced increased rat activity in the surrounding City of Brimbank and Moonee Valley areas, and rodents can chew wiring and other vehicle components.
Smart Storage World already has pest-control bait stations around the facility. As an additional precaution, we recommend customers consider their own appropriate bait stations wherever food has previously been stored inside vans or caravans, and in suitable areas within motor homes and other vehicles. Any customer-owned bait station must be securely concealed so that children and domestic animals cannot access or be exposed to the bait. Please use bait stations safely and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
A SIMPLE CHECK NOW CAN SAVE A LOT OF HEARTACHE LATER
- Confirm your insurance covers goods stored away from your home.
- Tell your insurer the goods are stored at Smart Storage World.
- Check the insured value is enough to replace the contents.
- Confirm vehicles, caravans, boats and equipment stored outside are insured.
- Check cover for unregistered vehicles and equipment.
- Remove all food, food scraps and rubbish.
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT YOUR STORAGE AGREEMENT
As outlined in your storage agreement, Smart Storage World does not insure your goods, vehicles, boats, caravans, trailers, machinery, equipment or personal belongings stored at our facility. Arranging appropriate insurance cover remains the customer’s responsibility.
This letter is simply a proactive reminder. Nothing has changed with your storage agreement. We would much rather remind you now than have a customer discover after an unforeseen event that their property was not adequately insured.
